Kantilo is a small town in the Nayagarh district of Odisha. It falls under the Khandapara Tehsil and is about 100km from Bhubaneshwar. Kantilo has historically been famous for its bell metal utensil and its industry base that was set up here in the pre independence era. But now a days, these utensils have been falling in demand and hence the industry is also losing its importance also because of being technically outdated.
Geography of Kantilo
Kantilo is located at an average elevation of 65 meters or 213 feet above the sea level. It is located in the east side of the state and lies very close to the coastline. It is located at 20.35 degrees to the North and 85.18 degrees to the East. It has a hot and humid temperature in the summers because of being near to the coastline but nights generally become cooler. The temperature during the year ranges from 15 degrees Celsius in winters to 40 degrees Celsius in hot summers. It is located 33 kilometers North to the District Headquarters Nayagarh and about 100 kilometers from the state capital Bhubaneshwar and 8 kilometers from Khandapara. It lies on the border of Nayagarh and Cuttack District. Other towns or villages nearby Kantilo are Bada Banapur, Dhanchangada, Bodasa, Rannichheli.

The exact population of Kantilo as per the Census of India 2001 is 8727. The ratio of males to females is relatively better at Kantilo as compared to the National Sex Ratio, as males constitute 51% of the total overall population while females constitute 49% of the overall population of Kantilo. Kantilo has an average of 72% of literacy rate being almost 15% more than the national average of 59% literacy.The most common language spoken in Kantilo is Odiya which is the local language of the state while people also speak Hindi and English here.
Transport in Kantilo
There is no railway station at Kantilo. People of this place have to travel nearby at least 10 kilometers to reach a railway station. Otherwise, people go to Bhubaneshwar generally which is the near most major railway station that is well connected throughout the country. One has to use roadways as a means to reach here. Several buses run from Bhubaneshwar to Kantilo connecting the town with other parts of Odisha.
Tourism in Kantilo
Kantilo has many temples where people from all over the state come to pray the deity. Some of these temples are quite famous in the state. Nilamadhav Temple is one such temple near the town which is a very old temple of Lord Vishnu which falls to the banks of the river Mahanadi. It is present in between the twin hills with forests surrounding it. Lord Siddheswara and Lord Jagannath are also worshipped in this temple from where holy water flows permanently. It is also famous because of being located at the largest coastline of Mahanadi River. Other famous temples here are Narayani Temple, Sidhamula, Dutikeswara, and some more. The place is a major attraction for tourists from all over the state. Hence, several lodges and hotels have been opened up to make sure that the people can stay overnight during the course of their pilgrimage.
